Scholarships and Grants

A huge variety of scholarships and grants exist for women in plumbing, particularly apprentices.
Some grants are available simply by applying with your personal information. Others require extensive applications which are judged and awarded to selected winners.

When searching for scholarships, it can be useful to try the following:
- search specifically for scholarships from your training organisation (e.g. TAFE).
- search online using key criteria you may fit such as ‘female’, ‘women in trades’, ‘women in male dominated’, ‘Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander’. ‘gender access’, ‘equity’, etc. Any disadvantages or unique background you have, can be used as an advantage in obtaining vital scholarship funding to progress your career.
- Follow organisations on social media - they often announce their scholarships there.
- Note down when yearly scholarships open, so you can remember to look for them and apply every year.

When applying for scholarships, consider the following:
- Make sure you submit your application before the closing date.
- Take the time and put in effort to make your application the best it can be. It is worth it to create a stand-out application.
- Look closely at the questions and try to understand exactly what a judging panel is asking and looking for. Tailor your answers specifically to each application, whilst remaining your genuine self.
